Parish of St. Leo the Great, Stamford / Dean, Fairfield-West Chapter of the American Guild of Organists
Alma is a native of Northern Ireland, she studied piano accompaniment with Philip Cranmer and Paul Hamburger in Belfast and London. Immigrating to the USA in 1986, she began studying organ in 1988 with Gordon Dean, and has served in St Luke’s Church, Darien as assistant organist, New Canaan Methodist as organist, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and Christ and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church as Interim Director, and since 1999 has been organist to the Parish of St. Leo the Great.
She is active as a piano accompanist and teacher in the area, and as a composer since her years at St. Luke’s; her music has been performed by NewYork-based ensembles Women Singing and Equal Voices, and has been commissioned by Musica Plenti and the Hartford-based Pro Femina; the churches which she has served have also included her compositions on a regular basis. In her spare time, she is a student of the martial arts.
