Rapp, Dr. Stephen

Stephen will be leading the group sessions on Practice Habits on Monday at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Sacred Heart University. He will also lead the group session on Performance Techniques and Stage Etiquette on Thursday.  

Stephen Rapp is the Director of Music for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stamford. In addition he maintains an active schedule as a solo and collaborative artist at the organ, harpsichord and piano. This season he will perform solo organ recitals in Stamford and Greenwich and in Eugene, Oregon and Tacoma, Washington. He also has appearances with ARTEK (as harpsichord soloist), Connecticut Early Music Festival Orchestra, Yale Camerata and Yale Camerata Chamber Chorus, Orchestra New England and the Waterbury Symphony. For several seasons he was accompanist for the Pro Arte Singers of Connecticut and the Greenwich Choral Society. Rapp has also toured in Europe, Japan and India as well as in the U.S. and Canada. His solo recordings include “New Bach” on the Raven label featuring first modern performances of works attributed to J. S. Bach and “A Baroque Christmas in North Germany” on the Musical Heritage Society label.

Stephen received the Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate in organ from the Eastman School of Music and the Master of Musical Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in organ from Yale University School of Music with certificates from Yale’s Institute of Sacred Music. He also studied at the University of Cologne as a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) grant recipient. He has taught music history at Concordia College, Bronxville, NY and given workshops and master classes for local chapters and regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists.
